Financial Literacy

Your Financial Power

A general overview of Your Financial Power: “Your Financial Power” is a financial literacy and empowerment program to help one examine their historical relationship with money; understand the process of change and commit to personal finances, banking, budgeting, and techniques to develop a strong plan for achieving your financial goals.

The Financial Literacy outreach session covered a range of foundational financial topics, including:

How to open a bank account, the importance of saving, and strategies for managing your money effectively. Participants also received an overview of phishing scams—both online and banking-related— information on different types of accounts.

The session addressed the role and responsible use of credit and credit cards, and introduced additional saving tools such as Certificates of Deposit (CDs), Money Market Accounts, and savings bonds. Attendees also learned about the significance of checking their credit reports and scores annually, and how to build strong relationships with their financial institutions.

The event included a Q&A session, and attendees had the opportunity to speak one on one with a banker and open a bank account on-site with our community partner, US Bank, which also facilitated the outreach event.

A great start to learning the importance of Financial Literacy.
